And you can count on every flaw picked at in this week’s reviews of the iPhone from The Wall Street Journal’s Walt Mossberg or The New York Times’ David Pogue to become a creeping nightmare for the iPhone team slaving away in a windowless arm of Apple (nasdaq: AAPL - news - people ) headquarters in Cupertino, Calif.

It’s still three and a half days until the device goes on sale, but in New York, fans are already lining up to buy the first iPhones

For an Apple devotee, queuing for three and a half days in the baking heat to be the first to get their hands on an iPhone is nothing.

And that is exactly what a group of dedicated Apple fans is doing. Outside the company’s flagship store on 5th Avenue in Manhattan, they have set up camp, and – flopped on deckchairs and writing blogs – are whiling away the time until the new device goes on sale at 6pm on Friday.

First in line is Greg Packer, a retired highway maintenance worker from Huntingdon, New York. Mr Packer told the CNET website that the experience of queuing for Sony’s PlayStation 3 in Long Island in November had taught him that “security will not let you line up at a mall for hours and hours”, so this time he’d chosen the streets of Manhattan instead.

One of the downsides of the Microsoft anti-piracy program for the Windows platform is associatedwith the false positives generated by the Windows Genuine Advantage mechanism.  The WGA went live in July 2005, and according to Cori Hartje, director of the Microsoft Genuine Software Initiative, the tool processed in excess of 600 million unique operating system validations since that time.

In mid February 2007, Microsoft introduced an overhauling to the WGA mechanism following a preview made available back in November 2006. Along with the new installation experience for WGA Notifications, the visual redesign, and the revamped diagnostics pages, the most notable changes introduced to the mechanism involved a gray area for the Windows operating systems that it cannot clearly determine as either genuine or non-genuine.

Another easy way to bypass Windows Genuine Advantage has been discoverd, this time with Linux.
“I just did this for a laugh and didn’t expect it to work” said mig5 the discoverer of the hack. He managed to validate an Ubuntu installation as a genuine copy of Microsoft Windows and get to the download page of Windows Defender, using IE4Linux and Wine. “So, I hated the Ugly Green used in both Vista and Xp taskmanager. Not that it is often used, but it is just plain ugly! So I have fixed that! I love Blue, themes and just the color in general, So here you Have it A Blue TaskManager. Instructions Included on replacement of file.” Said Lsdmeasap in one of his posts.

It is the first time he did edit a file like this with Hex editor, and the results are just great as you can see from the images. Let’s hope he will come up with more in the near future.
